BarCampPhoenix is tomorrow, so I figured I would help spread the word in any way I could.
I am currently developing something that would be great to present and talk about at BarCamp. It is not near completion, but I will be working late into the night tonight to try to get it to a ‘proof of concept’ condition that I can demo.
Some hints:
– Related to contact management
– Decentralized, peer-to-peer foundation, aided by an optional web service
– Designed to be developer-friendly to spur the development of tools/gadgets
– Currently developing a Firefox extension that utilizes a client-side database (pretty awesome)
– Intended to impact the way people use & find social networks
– Intended to help people stay in touch, stay organized, and stay up-to-date
Hopefully this sounds interesting to you. If so, come to BarCampPhoenix and be one of the first to learn about this exciting project!
hmm…sounds good..but why a *client* side database? i think server side is the way to go, atleast as far as databases are concerned. you don’t want your social networks to be left behind when you switch computers, or even browsers for that matter.
Hey Kris,
I agree with you, but there is a reason why the first implementation will be client side.
This project is something I am building for free and all costs are out of my pocket. Therefore, I’m setting up a model where it is capable of growing into the millions of users without additional investment from me. Plus, I am planning on creating a method were users can import/export their contacts easily.
If it is successful, the decentralized nature of it will allow anyone to create hosted web services if they want to.
ok…so maybe you’ll need a good amount of redundancy, so that even if your own client side database goes down, your contacts are still somewhere else…spread across many other clients just like typical p2p networks.
overall, neat concept. hope to see something concrete soon :)
have fun dude, let me know how it goes..
